Anyone who has been accepted onto the common housing register can take part in the scheme. You only need to apply once to express your interest or ‘bid’ on suitable vacancies across all the local authority areas in the Tees Valley. The quickest way to do this is to apply online by clicking online application form.
We will ask you and anybody applying with you to provide 2 forms of identification, which must include your National Insurance Number and address. We will ask you to provide a reference from your landlord (where applicable) and we will also ask you to provide proof of address for every person listed on your application. We have listed below the type of information we will ask to see to help us assess your eligibility to register on the scheme:
Your application will be assessed on the answers you give and on any other information supplied by other professional organisations supporting you. When we have finished assessing your application we will write to you to tell you your registration date; the band you have been awarded, your priority band date (where applicable); and your username and password. Click priority bands for more details on how we prioritise applications.
If we receive evidence to suggest that you or a member of your household have a history of unacceptable behaviour, we may deny you access to the scheme, which means you cannot bid for properties. Examples of unacceptable behaviour include serious rent arrears, noise nuisance, neighbour harassment, hate crime or relevant convictions that could affect the stability of a community and make you unsuitable to be a tenant.
In some circumstances and depending on the seriousness of your behaviour, we may decide to make your application active so that you can still bid for properties; however we may overlook you if you are successful and your behaviour has not improved.
There are also some people from abroad who by law cannot take part in the scheme, but we will offer advice on other housing options.
We will write to you if we decide to deny you access to the scheme, giving you the reasons for our decision and to advise you of your right of appeal.
This will be the one we create for you.
